Valdis Story: Abyssal City, released in 2013, is an action-adventure platform game created by the American indie studio Endless Fluff. The game's development was made possible through a successful Kickstarter campaign that concluded on April 27, 2012, raising an impressive $49,574, which was over six times its initial funding goal of $8,000.

The game's storyline revolves around a mythological tale. In ancient times, the Goddess Valdis gave birth to two daughters, one representing Light (Alagath) and the other Darkness (Myrgato). Tragedy struck when Myrgato attacked their home city of Sitheil, sinking it in the process. Alagath arrived too late to prevent this catastrophic event.

Gameplay:

Fast forward to the present day, where four protagonists named Reina, Wyatt, Gilda, and Vladyn embark on a sea voyage in search of a Knight in Myrgato's Dark Army. They encounter massive sea creatures that pull them into the submerged city of Sitheil. To their surprise, Sitheil, once believed lost, still exists underwater, shielded by a barrier that enables the remaining humans and creatures to survive beneath the waves. Alagath's Angels and Myrgato's Demons continue to vie for control of the city.

Each of the four protagonists embarks on a mission to reunite with their ship's crew, who were separated during the chaos. With the assistance of the few remaining humans in Sitheil across various towns, they gradually come together and uncover the truth behind Valdis' alleged demise and the ongoing war between Alagath and Myrgato, which threatens their world.

The game delves into the concept that the world of Erebus is a living entity connected to all humans through spiritual energy. Initially, only a select few could harness this energy, but over time, more people gained access to it. Powerful beings from another world, known as "Tyrant Gods," were drawn to Erebus by this potent energy and ruled over humanity until a small tribe rebelled against them. Valdis, the leader's widow, awakened her power over death, becoming a Goddess herself. She created Alagath and Myrgato to watch over humanity and then lived among the Goibniu, nomadic warrior tribes in frozen wastelands, before transforming the barren land into the thriving city of Sitheil.

Final Words:

Towards the game's conclusion, the protagonists discover Valdis in her final moments. She reveals that both her daughters attacked her out of fear of her deathly powers and the Goibniu's knowledge of defeating the Gods. Valdis discloses that Reina is her daughter, orchestrated the shipwreck to reunite with her, and that Wyatt's father, a Goibniu, helped Valdis in rescuing Reina. She also reveals that Reina's existence is unknown to her sisters and urges her to eliminate them.
